Deviantart Powerhouse

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge on June 26th, 2008 by burtabreu

This is just a quick note for those promoting their art. If you haven’t done so already consider adding a Deviantart page. I added three brush packs over the past 3 days. My site generated 200 or so downloads. Deviantart generated 1300 during the same period. It makes sense to cross link your various blogs and sites to drive traffic through them and increase your visibility.

DogWaffle, PD Pro and PD Particles

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge on June 25th, 2008 by burtabreu

Ever since Dan Ritchie created DogWaffle it has had a fanatical following. I tried the demo some time back and loved the particle brushes. When they rolled that feature into a separate product called PD Particles -that only cost about $20- I purchased it.

I recently dug up some presets I created and posted them as part of my site update. If you have any of these products

you may want to check them out.

You can click on the thumbnails below to see some previews of what the brushes can do.

Free Photoshop Brushes

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge, Photoshop on June 15th, 2008 by burtabreu

I added another small collection of free Photoshop brushes. You can paint with them, use them to cut through layers to expose different textures and use layers styles to generate effects like this quickie texture I did.

I added brush previews to the page so that you can see what is included in each pack before downloading.

Check them out here.

Wallpaper Madness

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge, Photoshop on June 13th, 2008 by burtabreu

I decided to try my hand at a few desktop wallpapers. Not sure how good -or bad- they are. My aging monitor seems a bit off -stuff that looks good to me seems to be too dark, too light or too saturated to other people; can’t figure it out. It’s also possible I screwed up the color space settings I guess.

You can get them here.

Hire Me!

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge on June 1st, 2008 by burtabreu

Yep, hard as it is to fathom -given my exquisite Mr. Potato physique and clam-like conversational skills- but two months after being laid off I am still seeking a new job! While I’ve enjoyed my countless hours chasing freelance opportunities, sending out resumes and making ramen noodles out of scrap paper (giving a whole new meaning to ‘going green’), I need a job!

I have a few items in a portfolio here

and more information here

I’d love any creative work but I particularly like kid art -children, not goats (though I guess they’re ok too), video game, educational, casual game art and anything else fun. I’m a year old in the industry, but I have a lifetime love of creative endeavors.

So, what do you say? Be a peach and hire a pear today!

A bit more webdesign

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge on April 20th, 2008 by burtabreu

Well I am still slogging along. I spent hours trying to sort out the div tags today - it’s only a few tags but my head almost exploded in frustration to get stuff lined up right. Finally got the basics done enough and I turned them into templates for the CMS I am using. Lots more has to be done but it is starting to take shape.

I have a couple pages of sketches I need to scan Monday and then will post. I’m also trying out the Illustrator lessons on Lynda.com as we only had two short classes on it in school. I hope to get a paid subscription soon but for now I think I have one more day on my trial so I’ll be up late watching as many videos as I can. I hope that getting some basic Illustrator skills will increase my employability..

Website Redesign - WIP

Posted in Art and Animation, HodgePodge on April 12th, 2008 by burtabreu

I have started to work on a redesign for my site. I am not comfortable enough to do all the interaction in Flash so I may go static. I’m just drawing it now and then will convert it to a template that works with the CMS I am using. I’ve always created boxy design - the sites I owned in the past have been content sites so the object was always having a neat hierarchy so people could drill down and find a specific tutorial or download. Plain, ugly and boring.

I’m going to try something more like a kid’s storybook this time. Here is a shot of the main page in progress.
