Hope’s Journey

Posted in Daily Sketch, Art and Animation, Creative Writing on February 18th, 2010 by burtabreu

I have had to reorder my goals a bit and so I will be staying at this job - to feed the family- and doing the creative stuff on the side. I’m going to start by trying to animate a short poem (looking around nervously in case I get slapped by any ‘real’ poets).

The poem, an image gallery and the story beats are here.

I’ve paid a few artists for some concept work as their ‘rough sketches’ are better than my ‘regular sketches.’

Here are a few images from Chelsea Conlin (and one from me) -be sure to check her out at DeviantArt

I’m slowly plodding along and hope that getting this short bit done will give me what I need to encourage me to get out several longer stories that have been fermenting in my brain for a number of years.

Mexopolis: Creative Inspiration Series

Posted in Art and Animation, Flash, Artist Spotlight on February 3rd, 2010 by burtabreu

Lynda.com recently added a new set of videos to their Creative Inspirations section featuring the animation duo behind Mexopolis animation studio. As an artist, hopeful that some day I can pitch my own ideas,  I find their story very inspirational - maybe my Latino roots are also to blame it really resonated for me.

From Lynda.com:
“Jorge R. Gutierrez is a Mexican animator, writer, director, and self-proclaimed troublemaker and cartoonista. Along with his partner and wife, Sandra Equihua, he created the acclaimed animated television series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera for Nickelodeon. Gutierrez and El Tigre have been honored with five Emmy Awards and two Annie awards.”

I have a subscription to Lynda.com yet hadn’t really noticed this Creative Inspirations series before today. It is fantastic. Even if you don’t have a subscription you can watch the first 3 videos free and I recommend you do just that.
