Rediscovering the Road Not Taken …

Some more practice drawing with a Wacom in Flash. I also looked at different characters in my son’s Disney Comic Zone magazine and tried various head shapes.

Here’s another effort at painting. The image was mostly done in ArtRage, I exported it as a layered PSD and then I added some detail to the grass and some dodge and burn in Photoshop. Took me about 4 hours. It looks very flat and compositionally weak. Since I can use your crits and suggestions to improve I’m posting it anyway. I started out wanting to paint a layout in Nickolodeon’s Avatar style but all I ended up with was this lump of coal. :/

CGTalk has a Daily Sketch thread and they posted a ‘hyper thread’ which required posters to critique at least one other posters work. I figured this might be a way to get some feedback to help improve my work, so I tackled the theme ‘light’ with the following image based on a story idea I have. It still has many lacks but I forced myself to do it entirely in Photoshop with the Wacom as I need to get more comfortable with that darn thing. Four hours to get this done.

Spent some time scratching at my drawing pad as I had moments free during the day. Ended up with several random pages of rough stuff. Here is one page (I did a quick photoshop color on one element).
